AOP Starting Out 2023

AOP + Free Range, Truman Brewery

Talks & Folio Reviews for Photography students.

Established in the early 1980s, the AOP Student Awards recognise and highlight the emerging photographic talent that exists in further education institutions across the UK. We pride ourselves on nurturing talented photographers throughout their career and many previous AOP Student Awards winners have gone on to become discovery winners as assisting photographers and then as professional photographers in our prestigious AOP Photography Awards.

The AOP Starting Out Conference offers photography graduates and students the opportunity to experience the professional working side of the industry. With the support of leading photographers and names within the industry, these sessions will provide practical knowledge and insights for you to start your photography career. Covering all the business basics including invoicing to licensing and contracts, as well as practical advice for those considering starting out as an Assistant Photographer – we will also be running portfolio review sessions and providing a healthy dose of inspiration through a series of talks from several award winning AOP Photographers.

Our Student Award 2023 finalists will be exhibited throughout the Show and we look forward to revealing our Gold and Silver winners as well as our Best in Show on Friday 23 June 2023

Join us in the AOP x Free Range Talk Space for what promises to be an exciting programme and your chance to see the work of finalists in the AOP 2023 Student Awards Showcase @ Free Range

I use visual storytelling to investigate issues of identity, migration, and mental health, and participate in collaborative projects and community-based initiatives that promote social change.

By working with different communities, my intention is to bring attention to issues that might otherwise go unnoticed and create a sense of solidarity and connection among people who share common struggles.

I am a Fellow of the Center for Social Impact Strategy at the University of Pennsylvania and a Member of the Board of Trustees of Axis, an independent UK-based charity dedicated to strengthening and sustaining a thriving visual arts community by encouraging and facilitating an increase in good practice in the visual arts.

I am also an Accredited Member of the Association Of Photographers – AOP, and a Students’ Career Mentor at Kingston University.

Ultimately, my goal is to use my work to help make this a Better World.’
