Hanami, (花見)

Hanami, (花見) which translates to "flower viewing" is the traditional Japanese custom of enjoying the transient beauty of flowers. 🌸

Like many I struggle with the dark cold days of winter, if I don’t pay attention I’m prone to suffer from S.A.D/Winter depression so I eagerly look forward to the arrival of blossom and springtime when I truly awaken.

In spring of 2022, the first with no lockdown restrictions since the start of the pandemic, I went out into London to document people, consciously or not, practicing Hanami. It was so encouraging to see people mingling closely together appreciating the fleeting beauty of Sakura. These are just a few images from the project, to see more head over to my site – www.bengold.co.uk/hanami
